All computers are built with toxic materials. If thrown away, these computers can release toxins into the environment, potentially polluting the water we drink and the air we breathe.

Recycling not only prevents this, but the resources found in computers can be recycled, eliminating the need for new ones which decreases the impact of production on the environment.

A computer monitor may contain as much as 7 - 8 pounds of lead.  A single gram of lead can pollute 2,500 gallons of water.  An entire monitor can pollute up to 8 million gallons of water.  The EPA standard is 10 miligrams per deciliter of water (a cup of coffee).

Under Colorado law, a business is required to arrange for proper recycling at an approved recycling center.  Green Up Denver has partnered with Luminous Recylcing to carry out recycling work.

A homeowner is still permitted to dump their computers in a land fill.  However, with the obvious pollution arising from such disposal, the right choice is to recycle.
